This is how you make impact as an Export Control Specialist

As an Export Control Specialist, you ensure that Neways can responsibly export and import worldwide. You safeguard compliance with export control and sanctions regulations for both military and dual‑use goods. You assess transactions, screen business partners, classify goods, and manage licenses, both on request and proactively. You support our operating companies, implement procedures, and contribute to further developing our Internal Compliance Program (ICP). In this way, you make the difference between “cannot” and “can,” enabling our business to operate without compromising compliance.

The Export Control Specialist reports to the Compliance Officer. Together, you are part of the Risk & Compliance team, which also includes Legal, Compliance, and Information Security.

Your primary work location is our headquarters in Son. Alternative arrangements can be discussed; however, for effective performance in this role, you will regularly work from other Neways sites as well.

Your daily responsibilities include

  • Assessing export transactions (goods, technology, information) and advising on risks and mitigating measures; blocking transactions within your delegated authority where necessary or advising on next steps in line with export control and sanctions regulations.

  • Screening and performing integrity checks on customers, suppliers, business partners, and end users; assessing and handling matches against sanctioned or restricted party lists.

  • Classifying or supporting the classification of products and technologies against applicable export control lists and ensuring proper documentation.

  • Managing licenses: determining licensing requirements, submitting applications, linking licenses to transactions, monitoring usage, maintaining contact with authorities, and ensuring full documentation and reporting.

  • Advising on export‑control‑related customs matters within shipping and warehouse processes and ensuring effective blocking and release controls.

Policy, assurance & continuous improvement

  • You support the Compliance Officer in developing and maintaining the ICP:

  • Implementing procedures and work instructions and preparing training materials.

  • Support monitoring activities by collecting data, preparing reports, and identifying potential gaps for escalation.

  • Identifying potential improvements and supporting their implementation.

  • Supporting internal and external audits and providing training and awareness sessions.

Governance & reporting

Periodically reporting on license status, incidents, risks, improvement actions, and other performance indicators.

This is what we offer you

In addition to a competitive salary aligned with your background and experience, we offer a challenging role within a growing international company in a rapidly evolving field. You will work closely with experienced professionals in a collaborative environment, with support for personal development and clear opportunities for growth, autonomy, and initiative.

You can also expect:

  • 27 vacation days + 13 ADV days

  • Flexible working hours

  • Hybrid working arrangement

  • Travel allowance

  • Training and development opportunities

  • Pension scheme

  • Bicycle plan

This is what you bring to the team

You are a specialist in export control and trade sanctions, able to move smoothly between operational tasks and broader compliance considerations. You bring a hands‑on mindset and the ability to translate regulations into practical operational steps for our business teams.

We also ask for:

  • Specialist knowledge of EU and Dutch export control and sanctions regulations (military & dual‑use).

  • Knowledge of U.S. regulations (ITAR/EAR) is a plus.

  • Experience with license applications, goods/technology classification, and due‑diligence/screening in an international production or high‑tech environment.

  • Ability to translate technically and legally complex topics into clear risk assessments, go/no‑go advice, and mitigation measures.

  • Experience in drafting procedures, providing training, raising awareness, and translating audit findings into improvement actions.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent command of Dutch and English, both written and spoken; German is a plus.

Bachelor’s or master’s level education and 3–5 years of relevant experience in export control or trade sanctions.

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of German, Slovak, and/or Czech export control regulations.

  • Experience supporting internal or external audits.

  • Familiarity with Infor GTS or similar systems.

  • Experience in multicultural and multidisciplinary project environments.
