David Barrera - Tester
At Neways Electronics, we create products for the semiconductor industry. As a Tester, I receive products from the assembly department to ensure they function perfectly. Each product requires specific tests, such as wiring tests, high-voltage tests, or functional tests. For example, I might simulate a smoke alarm trigger inside a cabinet to confirm it reacts as expected. My job is to ensure everything within the product works as it should. We simulate real-world scenarios to guarantee our products meet customer expectations.
“If we lived in a perfect world, my job wouldn’t exist.”
“My background in telecommunications really helps because you need solid technical knowledge to do this job. Sure, you follow testing instructions, but when something goes wrong, you need to understand why. People aren’t perfect—designers make mistakes, assemblers can make mistakes, and that’s where I come in. My role is to catch those errors before the product reaches the customer. If we lived in a perfect world, my job wouldn’t exist.”
“There’s so much to learn at Neways.”
“At Neways, you’re constantly learning. We use many custom programs developed specifically for our products, so you learn how to read error codes and handle specialized equipment. Each product has its own unique test tools. And sometimes, it’s not just about identifying problems but solving them, too—like swapping wires if they’re incorrectly placed. Every test is documented in detailed reports, which we share with the relevant teams to prevent future errors. Depending on the issue, a product might go back to the assembler or even the supplier. Testing is a critical step because our products are highly complex. For larger products, like cabinets with multiple parts and racks, we perform tests at every phase of production to ensure quality at each step.”
“Neways has given me the chance to grow.”
“I really enjoy working at Neways. This company has given me the opportunity to grow. I started as an Assembler, but when my team leader learned about my technical background, he offered me the chance to become a Tester. In the two years I’ve been here, many of my colleagues have become close friends. We often hang out outside of work—going to the cinema, having dinner, or grabbing a drink. Next year, some of them are even joining me on holiday in Spain, where we’ll stay at my family’s house. What I love most about Neways is the supportive atmosphere. Everyone helps each other, and I don’t see my boss as ‘the boss.’ He’s more of a guide, always showing me ways to grow and develop within the company.”
