Marvin Raijmakers - Prototyper
“I like work that makes me think.”
Marvin Raijmakers worked in hospitality until the pandemic but wanted to take his career in a new direction. With no prior knowledge or experience, but a healthy interest in technology, he caught the attention of a recruiter. Now, three and a half years later, Marvin works as a Prototyper at Neways Electronics. When testing new products, he always finds something that can be improved.
“As a Prototyper, I review new products to determine if they’re ready for production. I check whether all components match the specifications, and whether everything fits as it should. I also assess the best sequence for manufacturing the products and create instructions to make future production easier. It’s meticulous work. My main focus is looking critically at everything: What are we making, and what is its purpose? By reviewing each step systematically, you can identify where problems arise. Does everything comply with the IPC standards? Do the screws fit? Is everything correctly detailed in the drawings?”
“There’s so much variety in my work.”
“What’s the problem, how do I solve it and which department do I need to involve? That sums up my work in three steps. Of course, you can’t just dive in without thinking. I like work that challenges me mentally, and this definitely does. There’s a lot of variety, and I’m never working on the same product for days on end. Before I joined, I used to spend my free time soldering and tinkering with electronics. Neways saw that I had certain skills and gave me the opportunity to develop them here. You really get chances to grow here. For example, I’ve been asked to become a mentor, which I enjoy because I like helping to train others. In short, my job as a Prototyper is incredibly diverse and challenging.”
“I always find something that can be improved.”
“As a Prototyper, you’re bound to run into problems. The problem itself might not be fun, but I enjoy solving it. I always find something that can be improved. There’s a great, friendly atmosphere at Neways. Whether you’d call that typically Brabant, I’m not sure—I’ve only ever worked in Brabant! Everyone helps each other out. If you don’t know how to solve something, you can always ask for advice or clarification. You’re definitely not left working on an island here.”
“All the different nationalities make it fun.”
“When I explain my job to people, I tell them that as a Prototyper, I check whether new products can be manufactured without any issues. Most people have a general idea of what that entails, especially when I mention printed circuit boards. And if I encounter problems, I solve them. One of the big advantages of working at Neways Electronics is that it’s all very manageable. You don’t get lost in a sea of people here. Because it’s a bit smaller, you have more room to develop yourself in different directions. You get noticed faster and have the opportunity to grow into the role you want. And we do all of this with colleagues from all over the world. You encounter so many different nationalities and cultures here, which makes it a lot of fun and also helps improve your language skills.”
